February Fundraising: Highlighting our community

Take a look at some of the incredible things our community are doing to fundraise during February!

Dynamic duo take on Everest

Julie and Archie MacConnell – a brother and sister duo are taking on a self funded trek to Everest Base Camp in December 2024! Julie is a retired police officer and Archie is an IT Specialist, although their professions are different, they both share the appetite for a nice big challenge, and want to push themselves to the edge of their physical capabilities whilst raising money and awareness for a cause close to their hearts; Leukaemia.

Julie and Archie lost both their father and grandfather to leukaemia. At the time of their fathers passing Julie was in her early 20s and Archie was only 12. Knowing the devastating impact of leukaemia, they hope to contribute towards the ongoing fight against it by raising as much funds as possible, whilst pushing themselves to their limits. SIG Cycle from Lewes to Paris

On the 19th June 2024, 12 employees and colleagues of SIG from all over the South of England, will undertake cycling from Lewes to Paris (Roughly 200km) over three days. The reason behind this fundraiser is a lovely little boy Alfie Coulson, who is the son of a friend, colleague and customer of SIG.

Since being diagnosed with leukaemia, Alfie has been through a rollercoaster of a journey, and through it all he has carried a smile on his face, which helped to keep his family strong and inspire those around him. Alfie and his family received vital support from Leukaemia Care which helped carry them through the hardest of times, which is why SIG have organised this fundraiser so that other families in a similar position have access to the support they need. Blazing Saddles charity bike ride

Pedaling for those pounds! Blazing Saddles are currently fundraising in preparation for their 300km bike ride across the west of Ireland, taking place at the end of June. Out of the 4 charities that they’ll be fundraising for, Leukaemia Care is one of them, as they are keen to help raise funds to support those living with various different cancers. Tony & Chris’ 22 miler!

After being diagnosed with hairy cell leukaemia (HCL), Tony Pullen and his dad Chris took on a 22 mile walk, raising a fabulous £1748  for those living with leukaemia! Not only did they take on the challenge of this walk, but they spread awareness about Leukaemia Care along the way, which resulted in someone getting in touch with us after running into the pair on their journey. We’d like to say huge thank you to Tony and Chris for being an inspiration to many!

When you’re a part of #TeamLC the fun doesn’t stop with Fundraising, and there are plenty of ways you can get involved to make a true impact on those living with leukaemia. You can take on a challenge and push yourself to the limits, stick to what you know and turn your hobby into a fundraiser, or simply become a volunteer to help us spread awareness about leukaemia.
