How our fundraisers have supported Leukaemia Care during Blood Cancer Awareness Month!

September marked Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and throughout the month, a wide range of people raised money for Leukaemia Care, helping to raise awareness and support of our work.

Our fundraisers throughout September raised over £25,000! Hear more about our amazing Blood Cancer Awareness Month fundraisers and events below. 

West End off Broadway

Every year John Walker and friends perform concerts for a deserving charity, and this year they dedicated the concert to Leukaemia Care after one of their friends was diagnosed with leukaemia and is currently undergoing treatment. The concert was called West End off-Broadway and was held at the Wellington Arts Centre in Somerset.  

The event was a singing success and raised £930.57! 

Emma Farley walked 270,000 steps for Leukaemia Care

Throughout September Emma challenged herself to walk 270,000 steps after her Auntie Maggie was recently diagnosed with leukaemia.  

Emma has said:

“Maggie is the strongest lady I know. She’s 86 years old and right up until her diagnosis she was still working, line dancing and going abroad!”

In total, throughout the month Emma raised £750 for Leukaemia Care.  

Swim Serpentine

On 14th September a team of 21 swimmers took to Hyde Park in London to take on the Swim Serpentine challenge. We had a mixture of people taking on the 1-mile and 2-mile challenges.  

The 21 swimmers have raised an amazing £7,709 for Leukaemia Care. 

Richmond RunFest raised over £10,000

Richmond RunFest took place in the middle of September, with 56 runners lacing up their trainers to support the work Leukaemia Care does.  

Through all their amazing efforts, as a team they raised a staggering £10,596.00 

Smith+Nephew – Cycle from London to Paris

A group of 25 employees from Smith+Newphew took on a 275-mile journey from London to Paris to raise funds for LC! They started the challenge on the 19th of September, So far they have raised £6,000 for our essential support services, allowing us to help thousands of people whose lives have been deeply impacted by leukaemia. 

Kay organises a Freddie Mercury Tribute 

Last year, Kay’s granddaughter Molly was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Since the heartbreaking news, Kay’s family have been fundraising for Leukaemia Care and in September they held a Freddie Mercury Tribue event which raised over £730.
